What is the YES Scholarship?

The Youth Extracurricular Scholarships (YES) helps foster families say “YES!” to extracurricular physical activities for children in their care.

Thanks to a grant from LiveWell Douglas County, we provide scholarships to help kids join active activities that get their bodies moving.

The YES scholarship helps cover the cost of extracurricular activities (like martial arts, team sports, dance, gymnastics, and other movement-based activities). Scholarships of up to $500 per child will be awarded for one extracurricular activity per year.

Who is eligible for the scholarship

Children currently in foster care placement, aged 3-18 years old, are eligible to apply. The child must fit at least one of the following criteria:

  • The child is listed as a Douglas County case
  • The child is currently placed in Douglas County
  • The extracurricular activity takes place in Douglas County

In May 2025, we expanded the scholarship eligibility to include ANY child (biological, adoptive, foster, kinship) in a licensed foster home or kinship placement in Douglas County.

We hope to one day receive grant funding to expand the program to include more participants beyond Douglas County.

What types of activities are covered?

The scholarship can be used for active extracurricular activities, such as dance, martial arts, sports teams, gymnastics, etc.

How are payments made?

Payment will be provided directly to the facility hosting the activity, after all other financial assistance options have been exhausted.
