The Foster Village Kinship Support Group meets on the fourth Monday of each month from 6–8pm at Fellowship Hi-Crest, located at 455 SE Golf Park Blvd, Topeka, KS 66605.

This group is led by Emily Wiebe and Madi Willis, both of whom are kinship caregivers themselves. Learn more about Emily here and learn more about Madi here.

How do I sign up?

No sign-up required. No cost. Just come.
If you’d like more information or have questions before attending, feel free to email: Emily Wiebe at emily@fostervillagenortheastks.org or Madi Willis at madi@fostervillagenortheastks.org

What should I expect during group time?

Each meeting includes snacks, childcare for children ages 0–12, and a welcoming team of leaders who are excited to get to know you and help you connect with other kinship caregivers. You can expect time to get to know each other, enjoy a fun group game, receive practical and relatable tools, and participate in group discussion where you’re invited to share your experiences, challenges, joys, and questions.

What might I take away from this group?

Kinship families receive wisdom and encouragement from others like them, practical tools for navigating challenges such as difficult behaviors, information about Foster Village resources and other community supports—and often, a meal!

Who is this group for?

This group is for female kinship caregivers (mothers, grandmothers, aunts, family friends, etc.). We’ve found that clearly defining this group helps create a more comfortable and supportive environment for everyone.

Do I need to be a Kansas-licensed foster parent to attend?

No. You do not need to be licensed. Whether you are caring for a child through kinship placement (licensed or unlicensed), have guardianship, caring for a child after kinship adoption, or another arrangement, you are welcome here.

What level of commitment is recommended?

There is no required commitment. Attending occasionally can provide helpful support and encouraging conversation. However, the real magic happens when relationships formed in the group grow into friendships beyond the meetings. Those who attend regularly often find a caring community of kinship caregivers to walk alongside them and share the weight of kinship care.

Is this group faith-based?

No. This support group does not include faith-based elements and is open to anyone and everyone. If you have questions about this, feel free to talk with the group leaders.
